AVEN Cottages - A Territorial Dementia Care Facility

AVEN Cottages was opened to residents in March 2010. Aven Cottages are specifically designed to care for people living with Alzheimer’s and related dementia. This project was funded by the Government of the NWT and the Department of Health Social & Services. The facility was built in conjunction with partners Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. and Nahanni Construction Ltd. Funding for the operation and maintenance of the facility is through the Yellowknife Health & Social Services Authority.

The facility consists of two Cottages (Redwood and Cedar). Each having 14 private rooms situated around a central core consisting of a dining room, kitchen & living room area. The specialized care provided in Aven Cottages is available for seniors 60 years of age and over.

Accreditation Canada is a not-for-profit, independent organization that provides national and international health care organizations with an external peer review process to assess and improve services based on standards of excellence.

Admissions

Admissions to Aven Manor is administered through the Department of Health and Social Services’ Territorial Admissions Committee (TAC). Applicants who are interested should contact their local Health and Social Services Case Manager, who will help coordinate the application process.

The applicant’s physician will be involved in completing the application package.
