Saint Patrick’s Celebrations

On campus last week, AVENS celebrated all things Irish with fun, and festivities.

Fun facts about St. Patrick’s Day:

• It is a nationally recognized holiday in Ireland

• The 1st St. Patrick’s Day Parade was in held America.

• Four-leaf clover has a meaning for each leaf: Hope, Faith, Love and Luck

"May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light. May good luck pursue you each morning and night” Irish Blessing

AVENS celebrated the week of good fortune with our residents through several events such as: Trivia Night, St. Patrick’s Day True or False, Guess Who, and much more. Our Recreation Team members Ronell, Anthony, and Holly held a festive Irish themed round table in the Manor.

Residents were also treated to an outing on the AVENS Bus for a tour of Yellowknife’s Pubs complete with History, and the Ice Castle. Visits included the Old Harley’s building now known as The Gallery, the Gold Range, the Raven “Yellowknife’s Hottest Dance Club”, the Kilt & Castle, and the Black Knight.

04:Campus Snow Clearing

Yellowknife weather is a constant surprise.

The snow clearing was originally scheduled for Friday & Saturday and was pushed back at the last minute due to the fresh dumping of white fluffy snow. Kudos to the Maintenance Team for adapting and executing with little to no notice.

Capital City was onsite Saturday and Sunday morning bright and early to remove the build-up of winter snow, ice & rock on the roads.

Our Maintenance Team were well prepared and safely directed traffic during the day. Photo credit goes out to our Maintenance Supervisor Rick Marshall for these great progress pictures.

All of the snow was removed from the campus unlike years past when snow was pushed into the open. Thank you to everyone for being safe during snow clearing!Spring is just around the corner with longer days, and higher temperatures.

04: Visit from AVENS Pres. & CEO

AVENS President and CEO, Daryl Dolynny, initiated the Business Continuity Plan on March 17th when a medical emergency required him to temporarily go off-line. All duties of the President & CEO were assigned temporarily to Sara Fullerton, Director of Finance until further notice.

Daryl stopped by for a quick visit on Friday to the Administration entrance. He is in great spirits, is recovering well and is hoping to be back to active duty as soon as possible. Daryl got to take home a little part of AVENS with one of the beautiful flowers from Reception.

Keep up the good spirits, take time to rest and have a speedy recovery! – AVENS Family
